75% of immune system is in the gut. If your gut is sealed, chances are that you’re in good health. However, if you do have this condition called leaky gut it can lead to a whole list of issues. The majority of people have this condition and just don’t know it.
What is a leaky gut?
The gut is made of organisms to help digest food and absorb nutrients. There are 10 organisms per cell living in the body. This truly just means we are just a shell for these living creatures. There are good organisms and bad organisms. The problem lies when the bad organisms (candida) take over and start causing leaks in the gut.
To name a few things that damage the gut:
Gluten – it causes the gut cells to produce zonulin, a protein that can break apart the intestinal lining.
Toxins- produced by environmental factors or even toxins that the organisms are creating themselves.
Infections- infections are often a buildup of yeast just sitting and rotting in certain areas (ears, nose, gut, etc. ). Antibiotics for these infections just make matters worse by killing off any good bacteria left and leaving a nice spot for bad organisms to come back with vengeance next time.
Sugar/dairy– Feeds the bad organisms and doesn’t get digested properly. Sugar/Dairy becomes very addictive to these organisms and they fight hard to get more. This is where you find your picky eaters, who only want carbs, sugars, and starchy foods.
Candida overgrowth and intestinal parasites – The most common cause of leaky gut!
Environmental toxins- like mercury, pesticides, and BPA
Stress or Unbalanced energy– our body is like a circuit of energy and if there is a cut or short out in our meridians then we are not fully functioning or able to heal.
If you suffer from any of the following conditions, it’s likely that you have leaky gut:
Signs You Have a Leaky Gut
- Diarrhea or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
- Seasonal allergies or asthma.
- Hormonal imbalances such as PMS or PCOS.
- Autoimmune disease such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, or celiac disease.
- Chronic fatigue
- Mood and mind issues such as depression, anxiety, ADD or ADHD.
- Acne, rosacea, or eczema.
- Yeast overgrowth such as thrush, diaper rash, body odor and vaginal yeast.
- Food allergies or food intolerance.
If you have leaky gut, then most of the time you have passed leaky gut onto your child. This happens through delivery and through the organisms that are passing to the baby through your milk. Leaky gut almost always happens in formula fed babies due to ingredients in formulas.
The good news is there is help and healing! Babies heal fairly quickly adults take a little bit of time depending on conditions they have. I highly suggest healing leaky gut before having any more kids. Leaky gut gets worse and worse in each generation.
How do you heal a leaky gut?
In my practice, I have all of my clients follow a strict personalized diet such as GAPS/PALEO/ SCD diet. This removes the toxic and inflammatory foods for a certain period of time. Then we observe the stool, face, and symptoms to see what we need to add or remove. We go as strict or easy as you need. I believe that slow steps equal HUGE progress. In addition, I examine my clients using many modalities to make sure their organs and body are responding correctly to the protocol.
THE GOAL IS TO:
1. Remove the bad organisms and toxins.
2. Replace the good organisms and nutrients.
3. Repair the gut
4. Balance energy to give your body the ability to heal itself.
